                                                                 MAIN DIRECTIONS OF SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY:

  •  study of nature of drugs toxicogenesis in concert with the functional-metabolic homeostasis disorders in mechanisms of drugs toxic action;
  •  determination of biological activity and safety of medicines and their biotransformation products;
  •  examination of pleiotropic effects of drugs (as derivatives of succinic, camphoric e.a. acids);
  •  substantiation of effectiveness of the new combined drugs based on a dicarboxylic acid derivative for the correction of comorbid endocrine pathologies on the backdrop of hepatitis;
  •  verification of role of metabolic intoxication in development of functional disorders in experimental animals dependent on intensity of exposure and routes of medication;
  •  toxicological evaluation of the varied medicinal products safety, considering criteria of biomonitoring (exposure tests and effect biomarkers);
  •  pre-clinical studies of acute, subchronic and chronic toxicity of the prospective drugs.

                                                                                         MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS:
Within the last years, the laboratory has:

  •  developed new methodological approaches to hygienic regulation of highly dangerous compounds with long-terms effects on organism;
  •  enhanced approaches to regulation of compounds with the anti-diabetic, antioxidant and anti-tumor activity;
  •  asserted the role of metabolites in realization of specific activity and toxic potential of an original antidiabetic agent – succinic acid derivative;
  •  scientifically substantiated methodological pillars for the biological monitoring of drugs – the succinic acid derivatives;
  •  specified the pleiotropic effect of a camphoric acid derivative used as a spermatogenesis stimulant. Study of the potential hepatoprotective properties of this drug in various models of hepatitis enabled to expand the range of its pharmacological activity, as well as to confirm the close relationship between disorders of the male reproductive system and liver pathology;
  •  We delineated the effectiveness of a new combined drug based on Cathiazine (a camphoric acid derivative) and succinic acid with the manifested antioxidant, detoxifying, membrane stabilizing, anticoagulant properties for correcting the toxic and drug-induced liver damages allied with the impaired spermatogenesis. We proved that one of the leading mechanisms of hepato-protective action of this innovative drug combines a stimulation of a glutathione link of antioxidant protection and an inhibition of the nitric oxide stable metabolites formation.

The research achievements of the Laboratory staff in fields of the Preventive and Medicinal Toxicology, Pharmacology and Endocrinology has resulted in publication of 360+ scientific works. Besides that, we have elaborated 1 methodological Guidelines, 2 Information sheets, obtained 11 patents in Ukraine, and defended 2 Candidate of Sciences theses.
